Choosing a builders bag means considering both the space your material needs and the weight you intend to put in it. Start with our two standard bag sizes, then talk to BSFL Packaging about the right specification for your application.

Volume and weight are different measurements
Volume describes space
Volume is expressed in cubic metres. A calculation based on nominal dimensions describes a geometric volume; it is not a guarantee of the usable capacity of a filled, flexible bag.
For comparison, multiplying the three stated dimensions gives approximately 0.729 m³ for 90 × 90 × 90 cm and 0.614 m³ for 85 × 85 × 85 cm. These figures are dimensional calculations only. Confirm the product’s usable capacity with the team.
A load rating describes weight
A bag’s safe working load is a separate part of its specification. The description “one tonne bag” should not be used to calculate volume or to assume a load rating for every bag variant.
Different materials can occupy different volumes at the same weight. The dimensions alone therefore cannot tell you how much sand, gravel or topsoil a particular bag should hold. Check the specified load rating and the requirements for your contents before ordering.
Tell us the material as well as the size
“I need bags for gravel, with these dimensions and this intended fill weight” is a more useful starting point than “I need tonne bags”. If you do not know the dimensions yet, start with the material and the way you plan to use the bags.

Questions about bag sizes
Is a one tonne bag the same as a one cubic metre bag?
No. Tonnes measure weight and cubic metres measure volume. Neither measurement can replace the other when choosing a bag.
Are these dimensions for the bag or its contents?
They are the stated bag dimensions. The space occupied by the contents will depend on the material and how the bag is filled; confirm the usable capacity for your chosen product.
Can I request another size?
Yes. Tell us the dimensions, quantity and intended use. We’ll confirm available options and any minimum quantity for the requested specification.
Do tunnel lift bags use the same sizes?
Do not assume the standard corner-loop dimensions apply to a tunnel-lift bag. Ask for the dimensions and specification of the tunnel-lift option you need.
